My book, Last Team Standing, has won the 2006 Nelson Ross Award, given by the Professional Football Researchers Association for “outstanding achievement in pro football research and historiography.” Basically, it’s the PFRA’s Book of the Year. Pretty cool!

Well, this is helluva way to find out that my monograph "Pigskin: The Porcines Who Gave All for The Ball" -didn't- win.

I suppose I have only myself to blame. There were, after all, some pretty serious factual errors. In hindsight I can see that I probably should have double-checked my assertion about the Harlem Globetrotters winning SuperBowl XXVI. So you really do deserve it, my friend. Congratulations.

Mazel tov, Matthew! My former spouse is a real Pittsburgh fan, and he dug the book. That is NOT the reason he's my former spouse...
Wishing you well,
